The lenoir Cycle consists of the following processes
Constant volume heat addition (1-2);
Reversible adiabatic expansion (2-3);
Constant pressure heat addition (3-1).
The Lenoir cycle is applicable to pulse Jet Engines.
For 1kg gas,
Q1 = Cv(T2-T1)
Q2 = Cp(T3-T1)
N cycle = 1- (Q2 / Q1) = 1- ((Cp(T3-T1) / Cv(T2-T1)) = 1- (Y (T3-T1) / (T2 - T1))
Using rp = (P2 / P1)
(p1v1 / T1) = (p2 v2 / T2)
T2 = T1 (p2 / p1) = rp.T1
(T3 / T2) = (p3 / p2)^((y-1) / y) = (p1 / p2) ^((y-1) / y)
T3 = T2 (1 / rp)^ ((y-1) / y)
= T1 rp (1 / rp) ^((y-1) / y)
N (lenoir) = 1 - Y (((rp^(1/y)) - T1 ) / (rp-1))
Thus, the cycle efficiency depends on the pressure ratio and specific heat ratio.
