Fuel pump is used to pump the fuel from the fuel tank to the carburetor.
ELECTRICAL FUEL PUMP :
In electrical fuel pump, the diaphragm is operated by an electrical solenoid instead of cam and rocker arm mechanism in mechanical pump. When the switch is "ON" Position, the solenoid winding produces magnetic flux. It pulls the armature with the diaphragm. The upward movement of the diaphragm creates suction and the fuel is sucked into the pump chamber through the inlet valve.
When the armature moves up to certain limit , the electrical supply is disconnected by the breaker point. So, the armature falls down which pushes the diaphragm down and causes the outlet open and inlet to close. Thus, the fuel is pushed to the carburetor.
