Wind Energy and Its Harvesting Methods

Wind Energy :

Moving air is called wind. Energy recovered from the force of the wind is called wind energy. The energy possessed by wind is because of its high speed. The wind energy is harnessed by making use of wind mills.

1. Wind Mills :

The strike of blowing wind on the blades of the wind mill make it rotating continuously. The rotational motion of the blade drives a number of machines like water pump, flour mills and electric generators.

2.Wind farms :

When a large number of wind mills are installed and joined together in a definite pattern it forms a wind farm. The wind farms, produce a large amount of electricity .

Condition :

The minimum speed required for satisfactory working of a wind generator is 15km/hr.

Advantages :

i) It does not cause any air pollution.

ii) It is very cheap.

Significance of Wind Energy :

1. The generation period of wind energy is low and power generation starts from commissioning.

2. It is recommended to broaden the nation's energy options for new energy sources.

3. It is made available easily in many off-shore, on-shore and remote areas.

CONSTRUCTION OF SIMPLE CARBURETOR : The main Components of Simple Carburetor are : Float Chamber, float, nozzle, venturi, throttle valve, inlet valve, and metering jet . In the float chamber, a constant level of petrol is maintained by the float and a needle valve. The float chamber is ventilated to atmosphere. This is used to maintain atmospheric pressure inside the chamber. Advantages Of Air Refrigeration : 1. The refrigerant used namely air is cheap and easily available. 2. There is no danger of fire or toxic effects due to leakages. 3. The weight to ton of refrigeration ratio is less as compared to other systems. Disadvantages Of Air Refrigeration : 1. The quantity of Refrigerant used per ton of refrigeration is high as compared to other systems. 2. The COP of the system is very low. Therefore running cost is high. 3.
